Cold Snow and Baby Pineapples - dbgb -

"I apologise if you think i'm ranting... but this is exactly a sample of my thought process and of course again.. you don't have to agree with it.. and it's still work in progress and evolving.. but there are many povs in life and i'm just sharing mine with you... but yes.. this is why i think in a global sense.. because essentially all humans the same [sic]... we're just as good and definitely just as bad and we'll all to some degree fit to the bell curve...

i just want to be honest with you because i do think honesty is important... and i rather you hate me for who i am than love me for who i'm not."

Happy Belated Birthday DBS

Three years on... and still dancing.

Here's a picture from just round the corner from my home in Perth... where it all started.

Sunset Dinner, Monterey, California

After trying some of the fancy offerings Monterey and Carmel possess, on our last night we opted for just a simple takeout dinner from the Asilomar dining hall. Started a little wood fire by the beach, a couple of beers and of course

a glorious sunset.

Sunset, Yang Ming Shan, Taipei, Taiwan

I love Taiwan; for her food, her people, her culture. Except for her politics (which we won't discuss at any length), this is a country which I have a huge soft spot for. Whenever I'm here, I make it a point to take a little hike around Yang Ming Shan, the scenary is always very soothing here and it's amazing that just a short journey from the main hustle and bustle of Taipei City lies this epitome of peace and tranquility.

As the cliff faces West, you can get some pretty nifty sunset views.

The Sun is impaled on twigs oh no!

She's smoking. The juxtapositioning of the clouds above the Sun here, gives me an impression as those she's sizzling as she crosses the horizon.

"Here comes the Sun, Here comes the Sun"
(wait a minute, shouldn't it be here goes the Sun?)

Man... if I lived in that shed, I could experience this sunset everyday.

Just peeking from the horizon.

The little dot moves like clockwork everday.
The Sun; Man's original timepiece.

The last picture isn't a sunset but the moon rising. I like it quite abit so I decided to throw it in for the heck of it. I used to be a total night crawler, getting up only when the moon rose and sleeping throughout the day, those were days long passed of course. Hmm.. I'm rambling on.. I always tend to get abit personal when I'm thinking about Taiwan.

Sunrise, Gold Coast, Australia

This blog features the rare and very occasional sunset but every now and then something crazier pops up; the even rarer "Sunrise"! After a pretty long night at the Gold Coast as shown by this dude's arm, I decided to stuff the sleep and catch the sunrise instead. Well, the sunrise was only about forty minutes away anyway, so I didn't have to bother about waking up.

We were there abit early.

A little glimmer...

The clouds blocking the sun were abit of a dampener.

But in her true glory, the sun rising over the horizon from the Gold Coast, East of Australia prevailed and shone true bold and bright. Now, where's that bed?

Sunset in Chicago, Illinois, USA

At 94 stories high, the view from the Hancock Observatory (not to be confused with the 60 storey John Hancock Tower) cannot be described as anything but spectacular. Taking sunset photos from a such an aerial view is always fun, the other location I enjoy snapping sunset photos is by the sea.

This place isn't open-air like the Empire State Building because of the strong winds that blow across this city (Chicago is known as the Windy City). This shot shows Navy Pier, a popular tourist attraction with touristy food and a large ferris wheel.

Chicago is really a symbol of resilience and tenacity since most of it was destroyed during the Great Chicago Fire, they have managed to rebuild themselves to one of nicest (I'm biased because Chicago is my second favorite city in the USA haha) sprawling cities.

The architecture of some of the buildings such as the Chicago Tribune Building still maintain an old Chicago charm. The days of Al Capone.

Since this place is all sealed up with glass walls because of the strong winds, it also leaves an annoying reflection in my photographs as the day grows darker.

South Chicago isn't really a pretty sight compared to the rest of Chicago and some guidebooks have even advised travellers not to go there because it can get rather dangerous. It is however, home to the Bulls Stadium, where there's a huge statue of Michael Jordan (the only man who has defied gravity) erected in his honor. The Bulls Stadium is almost in the centre of this photograph. It's a white, broad and flatish building with the rounded edges.

I accidentally left this out when I posted this. How could I forget the beautiful coastline of Chicago? Well, technically it's not really a coast because that's not the sea. That's Lake Michigan, one big mama of a lake!

Just when I was about to leave for dinner, I saw this sign which I thought was rather amusing. I think I would have stood a better chance of survival if I smashed a window and jumped down instead haha.

Dusk in Seoul

The only non-food related thing on this blog are the (very) occasional images of sunsets. I realised besides pictures of food, the other pictures I have in my camera are that of sunsets. There are some reasons why I like sunsets more than sunrises but I'll leave that for another time.

So I was in Seoul and I asked my Korean friend to take me somewhere with a good view for sunset pictures. Either the compass directions were wrong (we weren't facing West?) or it was too foggy in the -7degC winter but I didn't get any clear shots of the sun. So technically these aren't exactly sunset shots (like the one at Augusta) but moreso pictures of Seoul city from Seoul Tower at dusk.

I really like it how the colors blend here. All these photographs are posted "as is". No photoshopping at all.

Seoul is really a metropolis and started off with many smaller cities which eventually linked up with the epicenter. It does get dark pretty quick during Winter.

Just a few minutes later and the scene from a higher view was this. Even though I didn't get any clear shots of the sun that night, there was still something about standing motionless (I had no camera-tripod but was using a long shutter timing) with my little Ixus in freezing weather and cold winds that seemed quite random, quite crazy but so D.

Sunset at the Mortar Wheel, Augusta, WA

Sunset at the mortar wheel near Augusta where the South China Sea and Indian Ocean meet. The first sunset entry on this blog. I'm a sucker for sunsets, probably because I'm too lazy to wakeup early to take sunrises, then again it is alot easier to stayup rather than to wakeup!
